Here are some thoughts directly from kindergarten students at Parkside Elementary School in Solon, Ohio.

I will present to up to three classes of students at a time in a school library or classroom setting.  This smaller setting allows me to interact with the students as I read my books and discuss the process of writing and illustrating picture books. I am flexible with the number of presentations during the school day. The ideal amount of time for each group is 45 minutes.

Upon request, my presentations can be tailored to address specific Common Core Standands. Please inquire about this option.

A few things to think about:

1.  My books are written for younger children (Baby Beards! 1-3 years and Three Ghost Friends 3-6 years.)

2. I have successfully presented to kindergarten through fourth grade classrooms about the writing process. (Specifically, my presentation "How I Turned a 'Small Moment' in my Life into a Picture Book" for 2nd-4th grade. Students at this school were writing personal narratives as a part of their curriculum based on the Lucy Calkins' writing program.)

3. I would ask that an order form for my books is sent home to each family in the school. The order forms can be sent home before my visit, but I would prefer that they are sent home the day of my visit. A deadline will be set for orders and then I will come back to the school to fulfill each book purchase with an autograph and personalization.  For library visits, I would ask for an opportunity to sell my books after the program. Opportunities to sell my books help keep my fees and rates low.

STORYTELLING VISITS:

I love reading picture books! I bring the books to life with fun and interactive programs that can be customized to a theme. I have read books with the following themes; Bill Martin Jr., Wild About Reading, Lego, Dr. Seuss, Superheroes, camping, Kid Inventor Day, and more! I am confident I can find the perfect picture books for your event. Check out my family literacy blog, Happy Birthday Author. I have written this blog for over 6 years and it is all about children's authors/illustrators and picture books.

Many of my storytelling visits have been for RIGHT TO READ WEEK!  Do you need someone to come to your school to get the students excited about reading?  I have presented to larger groups of students by reading picture books that fit your week's theme. The presentations are interactive and include student involvement!
