Hike the Reading Trail at Camp Miller

Wow! I was so excited to be a part of this year's Right to Read Week at Miller Elementary School. This year's theme was Hike the Reading Trail at Camp Miller. On Thursday night, I hosted a family reading night that was very well attended. Thank you to all the families who came out for a night of stories around the campfire!

Standing room only!
5 years ago I hosted my first large storytelling event in this gymnasium. Since then, I have learned so much about storytelling.
I adapted Over in the Meadow by Ezra Jack Keats to Over in the Campsite. We went on a hike to find animals.
The kids carried signs of the animals we found and then joined me for a hike around the gym.
My book, Three Ghost Friends: Learn About Shapes, is a perfect book for a camping themed storytime.
Time for marshmallows and the "campfire pokey".
Going on a Bear Hunt -- the grass was tall and wavy and the mud was deep. We couldn't go over it. We couldn't go under it.  We had to go through it.
It's a Bear! Hurry! Back through the cave. Back through the river. Back through the mud. Back through the grass.
Is the bear gone?
Reading Night Animals by Gianna Marino.
I had some help acting out the book.
The grand finale was the GREAT BIG MOOSE campfire "repeat after me" song!
(Do you like my moose hat?)
